These are the nails Chris Schwarz of Lost Art Press extols in his blog for having far greater holding power than modern wire nails. When these nails are driven in slightly undersized predrilled holes, the tapered shank compresses the surrounding wood, bending the fibers downward, thereby resisting pull-out. The large head (approximately 1/2" in diameter) prevents the head pulling through the wood under load.
The nails offered in this listing have a shiny black oxide finish and are 30 mm (1 3/16" in length). Each box contains 100 nails. The recommended pilot hole for these nails is 3/32" for both softwood and medium density hardwood. A slightly larger hole may be needed for dense hardwoods.
The pictures above show the shape of the diamond head and the 30 mm nail is pictured at the left of the center picture.
The nails are manufactured in France and can be difficult to locate at present. They can be ordered from the factory in France or alternatively, Lee Valley currently offers the diamond head nails in boxes of 50. I am offering these at about 25% below the current list price.
Buy 1-4 boxes of nails.
This will be shipped by the most economical method via USPS. Because the cost of shipping can vary depending upon the distance, size, and the weight of the item, I use the shipping calculator to estimate shipping costs for a single item. I also offer combined postage for multiple items placed in the same order. Unfortunately, the shipping calculator does not work as well for combined shipments as the box size often changes with multiple items.
In the event of an unrealistic shipping estimate or combined shipping, I will refund excess postage costs.
Shipping will typically be USPS Ground Advantage which is tracked and insured.
Please feel free to ask any questions.
