About The Record:

Cool Yule Volume 2 released by Rhino Records, is a 14-song vinyl compilation that continues the eclectic and playful holiday music tradition established by its 1986 predecessor, featuring a mix of rare and quirky Christmas tracks from the 1950s and 1960s. This album showcases a variety of genres, including rock, R&B, and surf, with standout tracks like the Marquees' Christmas in the Congo (1959) and the Ventures' surf-rock rendition of Sleigh Ride. Unlike Rhino's Christmas Classics released the same year, which focused on mainstream holiday hits, Cool Yule Volume 2 emphasizes obscure, novelty-driven songs, making it a unique addition to holiday music collections. No tracks from the album were chart-topping hit singles, as it primarily features lesser-known recordings curated for their oddball charm and cultural significance. Its historical importance lies in Rhino's commitment to preserving rare holiday music, complementing the label's reputation for high-quality reissues and influencing future alternative Christmas compilations.
