About The Record:

The Little Drummer Boy, by Don Janse and His 60 Voice Children's Chorus, released in 1962 on Design Records, is a cherished holiday record featuring a collection of Christmas classics performed by a children's choir under Janse's direction. The album includes traditional songs like Jingle Bells, Silent Night, and the title track The Little Drummer Boy, showcasing Janse's skill as a vocal director and arranger, honed through his work with the U.S. Coast Guard Academy's Idlers. Historically significant for its contribution to mid-20th-century holiday music, the album captures the era's nostalgic and simple charm, resonating during a time of Cold War tensions when its message of peace and humility gained cultural traction. While the album itself was not charted, the song The Little Drummer Boy, originally written by Katherine K. Davis in 1941 and popularized by Harry Simeone in 1958, was a notable hit, appearing on pop charts multiple times in the 1960s. No specific hit singles are attributed to Janse's version, but the album remains a collectible piece of Christmas choral music.
