These beautiful vintage jugs from Old Castle Pottery (the North American label for Gray's Pottery in England) are pattern A8551, Coaching Scenes. The Gray's Pottery called this style "Splashed", but it has come to be called Mottled or Splatter Lustreware as well. Comprised of pink and purple splatters on copperware, it has a unique appeal and is an excellent example of mid-century lustreware. Crafted in Stoke-on-Trent, England in 1949 (based on the design date and backstamp used), these small jugs are 2.8 inches long, 2.25 inches tall, and 2.2 inches wide. Each weighs 2.5 ounces and depict a carriage drawn by four horses and a carriage drawn by a pair of horses.
The jugs are in excellent condition. There are no chips, cracks or signs of wear. Both jugs have some crazing on their white portions.
